After more than a year of controversy and an unprecedented change in how the board which oversees their fire department is chosen, the citizens of the Holly Springs Fire District finally had a chance to speak on Tuesday.
Their message came through loud and clear.
Voters elected five new commissioners for the Holly Springs Board of Fire Control, bringing to a close an 18-month saga that began with the ouster of a popular fire chief and has split the community into two camps.
That former chief, Lee Jeffcoat, is one of the newly elected commissioners. Jeffcoat gathered 497 votes in the election, and will be joined on the board by Robby Golightly (524 votes), Jerry Jackson (497), Scott Yarbrough (471) and Roger Hall (452). The five men ran together as a "pro-fire department" contingent, and their message struck a chord with the voters of the community.
