In December, the $500,000 Community Development Block Grant from the South Carolina Commerce Department came through for the Whitmire War Memorial Library. These funds will allow the library to improve handicap accessibility, replace heating and air conditioning, and build a 1600 square foot addition that will contain computers and a meeting room.
The grant proposal was a collaborative effort of Whitmire County Councilman Edgar Baker, Whitmire Mayor Tim Carroll, and the library board.
