Whitmire Councilman Brock resigns

Citizens concerned about council’s actions

By Maria McMurtury
Contributing Writer

Councilman Jimmy Brock resigned Monday,  February 7,  after citizens showed the town council at January’s meeting that Brock’s service on council was in violation of South Carolina Code # 5-7-180, which states that an individual  may not serve as mayor or council and work for the same municipality.

When interviewed Brock said he chose to resign so there would be no conflict of interest between his employment  with the town of Whitmire and his seat on council.

The group of citizens for a better Whitmire will continue to encourage the town to rectify the violations they believe the town has incurred.  The citizens voted for a  strong council form of government and that is what they  want to see.

Charles Adrian and Charles Press explain, “The weak-mayor plan is a product of Jacksonian democracy.
