Megan Thrift, Whitmire’s American Idol
On Saturday, July 17, Whitmire’s Megan Thrift auditioned for American Idol. Earlier last week on Wednesday morning, she and her grandfather, Edward “Buck” Thrift and her mother, Teresa, travelled to Nashville where the auditions were held. Saturday morning at 5:00 people lined up to audition for the producers of the show. If Megan passed the audition, she would be called back in November or December to audition for the judges that people see on TV. If the judges were to choose her to go to Hollywood, the earliest she could go would be the first part of 2011.
To succeed in an American Idol audition, a contestant must overcome nervousness and come through with a clutch performance. Though she had never been in individual music competitions before, Megan believed she had proved herself when it came to singing during “high pressure” situations.
