On Thursday, August 12, 2010 over 100 people gathered at the Newberry Opera House to hear South Carolina Senator and gubernatorial candidate Vincent Sheheen and Congressman John Spratt. Senator Sheheen spoke on a variety of topics including education, the state’s economy and legislative transparency. Senator Walt McLeod also made comments at the event.
When asked his plans if elected governor to bring jobs to small towns such as Whitmire, Senator Sheheen mentioned his familiarity with small towns’ challenges since his district covers twelve small towns in three rural counties. He believes the governor must again become involved personally in economic innovation and in recruiting industry to South Carolina.
