On Thursday, November 5th, and Friday, November 6th, the students, staff, and faculty of Whitmire Community School were recognized for their positive attitudes, good behavior, and good grades.
There were four assemblies so that each age group could be recognized, and bothparental and community pride was evident. There was a large number of parents, grandparents, siblings, and community members in the gym to support the achievements of the students.
Each assembly was opened with welcoming remarks from student body president Alex Cromer.
The first assembly was for kindergarten through second grade. Principal Joey Haney began by recognizing the students and faculty members who participated in the “No Book Left Unread” Summer reading Program.
Sally Shouse, a 5K teacher was recognized for reading 7,458 pages over the summer.
Students recognized for reading during the summer were Barrett Martin with 2210 pages; Jacqueline Riser with 1003 pages; Kerry Lawson with 1105 pages; Marissa Baker with 768 pages; Jesse Roller with 697 pages; and Cade Proctor with 456 pages.
Haney them recognized the “Terrific Kids” for September and October. “Terrific Kids” are students who exemplify an overall good attitude, give 100 percent, and are good students.
Each of them received a Wolverine cup filled with a gift certificate for a free movie rental from Family Video of Newberry.
Coach Haney also announced that the students would be going to Fatz for a tour of the restaurant, a visit with the manager (who will speak with them about the importance of an education), and a free meal compliments of Fatz. Ross Williams, Quadir Epps, Qua’Asia Epps, and JahQuindon Toland were recognized by Pre-K and 5K teachers Betty Thompson and Sally Shouse.
Other September “Terrific Kids” were Kade Proctor, Casey Stevens, Julianne Whisenant, Marissa Baker, Adam Price, Jessie Roller, Aubrey Brock, and Megan Pinner.
Other students were recognized for their sportsmanship, writing, artistic ability, musical talent, perfect attendance, and their work and behavior in the media center.
Aubrey Brock, Teresa Long, and William Johnson won a Sonic Burger coupon for their perfect attendance. Angela Laker was recognized for her good behavior; she did not have any discipline referrals for the nine weeks period.
Bus driver Ray Alewine was named the Support Staff Member of the Month for October. He received an Outstanding Wolverine Tee Shirt and a gift certificate for a free meal at Thomas Grill. Kay Shouse was the Elementary Teacher of the Month; she received a gift certificate for a meal for two at Lafogata in Newberry and an Outstanding Wolverine Tee Shirt. Last but not least, students who made the honor roll and principal’s honor roll were announced.
Following a short break, the 3rd through 5th graders’ success assembly began.
Alex Cromer welcomed the visitors sitting in the bleachers, and Coach Haney recognized the students who participated in the “No book Left Unread” Summer Reading Program and proudly announced that Makhail Knox had read 4191 pages over the summer.
“Terrific Kids” were the next to be recognized. Each one of them received a certificate Wolverine cup and a gift certificate for a free movie rental from Family Video of Newberry.
He also announced that they would be eating lunch at Fatz one day this week and taking a tour of the restaurant, where he would share with them the importance of an education.
Angel McCall, Kaylynn Roche, Samantha Silvers, Chase Hood, Cheyenne Gambrell, Mark Stevenson, Brianna Mast, Cameron Felker, Haley Hughes, Georgen Wise, Noah Armstrong, Megan Owens, Sara McCall, and Devin Vo were recognized as “Terrific Kids.”
Students with good sportsmanship, musical talent, artistic ability, writing skills, and perfect attendance were also recognized.
Christopher Severance, Megan Owens, and William Gilliam received a certificate for a free Sonic burger and Malaury Brown was praised for her good behavior; she did not have a discipline referral for nine weeks.
Perfect attendance certificates were presented to students who had not missed a day since school started. Staff member Charles Taylor was not present, but he was praised for his dedication to the school and awarded an Outstanding Wolverine Tee Shirt and a gift certificate for Thomas Grill. Mrs. Garrett was named Teacher of the Month; she received an Outstanding Wolverine Tee Shirt and a gift certificate for Lafogata.
Friday was the day to recognize middle school and high school students, staff, and faculty. Middle school Most Improved Students for September were Kirsti Robertson, Kristen Hunt, and Barak McLain. D.J. Norton, Brian Conner, and Michael Hall were the most improved students for October.
High school students Lee Sims and Logan Thrift were the most improved students for September and October.
Takiera Sanders and Candace Powers, middle school students, were named Middle School Students of the Month, and Louie Dickerson and Ethan Campbell were named High School Students of the Month. Beverly Wood, a middle school teacher, and Chris Martin, a coach and high school teacher, were named Teacher of the Month for September and October.
Students with perfect attendance and honor roll students were also recognized.
Four special middle school students were inducted into the Jr. Beta Club: Bethany Cromer, Amy Andrews, Matthew Dominick, Malik Whitener, and Candace Powers.
Whitmire Community School’s new motto “Wolverines Committed to Success” was very evident on Thursday and Friday, and both students, faculty, and community are proud of all the accomplishments made. Congratulations to all of you. You are truly an asset to your school and community.
