In July of 2010 town officials say they heard rumors that an employee was going to file a claim with the department of labor concerning overtime wages not being paid correctly. Carla Taylor town treasurer states Mayor Carroll called the department of labor and was told there had not been a claim filed. Mayor Carroll was told by the Department of Labor if the town had not been paying their employees time and – a - half for overtime hours worked then they needed to go back two years and pay the wages.
It has been the practice of the Town of Whitmire to only pay straight time for overtime hours worked for decades.
