Parade paints Whitmire in shades of Christmas
Donna Bumgarner, Hometown News

Excitement filled the air as people gathered along Main Street for the second annual Spirit of Christmas Parade. Bundled up in their warmest clothes, children of all ages came to welcome Santa and celebrate a long-time tradition in Whitmire. The parade was held December 12th at 1:00 p.m. and lasted approximately 25 minutes.

Police Chief Jeremiah Sinclair was the first to make his way down the street. He was followed by the Color Guard from the Newberry ROTC and a small group from the ROTC Unit. Right behind them was the pride of Whitmire, the Royal Regiment Marching Band. They livened up the street with their Christmas music.

Parade Marshall John Roche, Jr. was next.  John was chosen because of his family’s dedication and service to Whitmire.  Mayor Tim Carroll and members of the Town Council were not far behind him. Our town’s leaders were well represented in the parade.

Our county councilmember Edgar Baker and other political leaders from Newberry County and South Carolina like Donna Lominick, Auditor; Karen Lindler, Treasurer; Kelly Nobles, Probate Judge; and Senator Ronnie Cromer were also there to welcome Santa to Whitmire.

Fire trucks and ambulances were seen throughout the parade.
