The 76 Cycle Shop in Chapin was the gathering point for more than 80 bikes and many cars on January 12th.
They were gathering to go on a mission, a mission to spread Christmas cheer to the boys aged birth to 18 years old who live at Boys’ Farm. The Tenth Annual Toy Run sponsored by Newberry Opera House originated with two caring women, Donna Wicker and Debra Smith. Debra is one of the leaders of the Opera House and its many programs.
Each of the riders arrived at the cycle shop with an unwrapped gift. The escorted riders rode from Chapin to Newberry and they arrived at the Opera House at 2:30, where they were greeted by 27 boys from the farm. There were so many toys that each boy got to select 10 toys. The bicycles were the hot items. The boys were excited to see them.
There were even some toys left over; these were donated to the Sheriff’s Department and the Fire Department for other needy children in Newberry County.
