Woodruff Man Charged With Kidnapping Young Girl

A Woodruff man is being held at the Spartanburg County Detention Center on $26,000 bond after being charged with kidnapping, 2nd degree burglary, aggravated assault, and trespass after warning. Dantonio W. Smith 20, of 745 Pearson Road was arrested by Woodruff Police Friday in the parking lot of Woodruff Federal Savings and Loan.
According to Woodruff Police reports, the grandfather of a victim came to the Woodruff PD last Friday claiming that a black male subject on South Main Street had assaulted his granddaughter. Police then received permission to speak with the victim who informed them that she and two friends were playing when a black male approached her and grabbed her with both hands and began choking her. The victim told police that when this occurred she began screaming and her two friends took off running. The male subject then grabbed her by her arm and began pulling her as she attempted to run. The victim was eventually pulled to the ground at which point a car drove by and the subject released her and ran away. The victim then jumped on her bike and frantically began pedaling when two witnesses saw her. The two witnesses could tell the victim was in distress and the victim told them what had happened. The two witnesses observed a black male subject standing at the top of a road in close proximity to where the incident had occurred.
The witnesses transported the victim to her house and the victim’s grandmother called police. The witnesses later observed the subject walking through Kelly Acres, an area he had been placed on trespass notice. The victim and the witness identified the subject as Dantonio W. Smith. Woodruff Police located Smith in front of Woodruff Federal Savings and Loan and arrested him.
