Woodruff Police Department gets a new bite on crime

Professional canine trainer Mark Shawn trains the Woodruff Police Department’s newest K9, Diesel.  Diesel is the department’s first K9 to ever be trained in apprehension.

Woodruff’s newest addition to its police force is prepared to take a bite out of crime.  Unlike any of the other K9s on Woodruff’s police force, Diesel, a 1-year-Dutch Shepherd, is trained in apprehension.  Translation—this dog is trained to attack and apprehend criminals who are either fleeing or who present themselves as a threat to Woodruff Police officers.
“He is one bad boy,” says Woodruff K-9 Officer and Diesel’s owner Josh Montjoy.
Having had K-9s in the past that specialized in narcotics and tracking, the Woodruff PD felt that a dog trained in apprehension would be a great asset to the department.
Diesel, who is also trained for narcotics and obedience use, is Woodruff’s first K9 to be trained in apprehension.
“People have always had a primal fear of dogs and a dog that is properly trained in apprehension is a great asset to any officer,” explains Diesel’s trainer, Mark Shawn, who lives in Pauline.
