Store manager charged with aggravated assault and battery

Story By Phil Buchheit

The manager of Fred’s in Woodruff has been charged with assault & battery of an aggravated nature after bashing a man’s face into the concrete over a dispute pertaining to the store’s trash dumpster.  Billy Joe Thompson, 49, of 396 Benton Road, Belton was arrested on June 1 for an incident that occurred on May 28 outside of the Fred’s discount store in Woodruff which Thompson has managed since its opening more than two years ago.
According to police reports obtained from the Woodruff Police Department, an officer was dispatched to Fred’s on May 28 in reference to a fight.  When the officer arrived he found the victim of the altercation standing beside his truck, bleeding from his nose and forehead.  The victim told the officer that he had driven his truck around to the dumpster at Fred’s to dump three bags of trash.  He stated that as he was throwing the first bag of trash into the dumpster, Billy J. Thompson (the store manager) appeared and instructed him that he could not dump his trash there.  The victim told Mr. Thompson that he understood and that he wouldn’t dump his trash there.
