Amendments to the city’s rental property ordinance and business license ordinance should help improve the city’s look and local residents’ property values.
“What Woodruff is doing is not uncommon across the state,” said Scott Slatton, senior field services manager of the Municipal Association of South Carolina. “The aim of these kinds of ordinances is to improve a city’s aesthetics and the quality of the housing.”
The proposed amendments affect the city’s Rental Property Registration and Licensing Ordinance and Business License Ordinance. A major change included in the amendments would make rental property owners responsible for any unpaid city utility fees, such as trash pickup or sewer treatment, before they can renew their rental housing license each year.
