Burnett Is New Mayor of Woodruff
By CHRIS SHIPMAN
Hometown News

Brad Burnett is the new mayor of Woodruff after winning a run-off election with incumbent Paul Bell. Burnett received 238 votes, and Bell 225.
Bell won Precinct Two, the fire department, 86 to 72, and Precinct Three, the American Legion Post on West Georgia Street, 35 to 32, but Burnett won Precinct One, City Hall, by 28 votes, 130 to 102, and picked up four out of six absentee ballots to give him a narrow victory.
Burnett, who is also a plant manager at Inman Mills in Enoree, is on vacation in Jamaica with his wife and daughters, celebrating his 30th wedding anniversary. He will be back in Woodruff on Sunday, in time to be sworn in at the council meeting on Monday night.
“I’m excited about  it,” Burnett said. “I’m excited about the opportunity. I believe it’ll be good for the city of Woodruff. It’ll be fun, figuring out how to get the people of Woodruff to see their greatest potential. Together we can figure out what the possibilities are. All together we are smart enough to figure out how to do it.”
His goals, he said, will be to “get the people back involved, people who really care and people with a vested interest in the city.” He said he looked forward to working with the city council and appreciated the way Bell treated him during the campaign.
“(Bell has) insights, and I look forward to involving him just as much as anyone else in the city,” Burnett said. “And he has four years of insights that others don’t have. The objective is to improve Woodruff; it’s not about who won or lost.”
Bell said that he gave it his best shot, and he was disappointed with the low turnout. He said he would have more free time. “There are going to be some changes,” to his personal life, he said. “We’ll see what takes place.” A close friend suggested they fish more often.
“I wish Mr. Burnett well,” Bell said, “and I hope he devotes more than a half - hour a week to the city. I’m proud of what I’ve accomplished for the city. I’m proud of where the city is. And Mr. Burnett will have a good council and a good administration with some fine candidates for city manager.”
